From wig design to hair extensions
The history of Balmain Hair Professional dates back to the 1960s, a roaring decade in which wigs became an integral part of daily life. The French fashion designer Pierre Balmain, founder of the Balmain Paris fashion house, admired the idea of wigs being a part of a woman’s total outfit and elected Dick Guliker, a Dutch wigmaker, to represent the brand’s hair fashion collection.
When wigs slowly run out of fashion and the popularity of wefts increased, Balmain Professional used its professionalism in the field of wig design to create a revolutionary new weft extension system called: DoubleHair. The patented system became very popular due to the reusability and speed of application. Shortly after the rise of weft extensions, the first strand extensions entered the market. Balmain Professional distinguished itself by delivering hair extensions in retail able packaging instead of bundles of hair.
The creation of revolutionary tools
To fuse the extensions to the natural hair at constant heat and thereby ensure a reliable application, Balmain Professional developed the Plug and Play connector: the first hair extension connector in the market. To increase the ease of removal as well, Balmain Professional invented the Quick Remover. A revolutionary, time saving tool to remove bonded hair extensions in a single-handed operation by neutralizing the adhesive strength of the bonding under the influence of the pressure and UV light.
